Department of Atmospheric Sciences -- University of North Dakota

Department of Atmospheric Sciences

The mission of the Department of Atmospheric Sciences is to provide top quality undergraduate and graduate education, serve the community, and conduct significant research in the atmospheric sciences. Historically, this mission has been carried out in the context of an active program in experimental meteorology and "hands-on" study of the atmosphere continues to be the primary focus of the department. Current research is being conducted into a number of areas, including clouds and climate change, mesoscale modeling, satellite remote sensing of the atmosphere, data assimilation, radar meteorology and surface transportation weather.

This experimental theme has been successfully carried over into the department's academic programs in a variety of ways. The curricula include content in observational techniques, data analysis and practical application, from the introductory freshman level through graduate level courses. We are also able to provide numerous experiential learning opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students. The Department of Atmospheric Sciences currently offers the B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Atmospheric Sciences.
